ceramics class has started!
After taking the summer off, I'm back in the mud. I still remember how to throw a cup and a bowl. So that is good, larger things will come. I am using a stoneware clay called Bristlecone I bought from Mile High ceramics http://www.milehiceramics.com/clay.htm in Denver. I also bought Zen which is their most popular porcelain.
I am going for functional pieces first on the wheel, cups, plates, bowls. I will try to beautifully glaze them. Then I may try to throw a bit larger. I love hand building with slabs so I will do this mostly at home where I have space on the screen porch and where I can go out and poke at something and work on it when it is exactly right and then wrap it up and come back until it is right for the next thing.
I made some three-sided slab-constructed bowls last spring that I liked so I made a few more with bristlecone. and I decided to expand on that construction technique and I made cookie jar w/lid. If I am lucky and it turns out, I will post a picture. Cross your fingers!
